Our research within the iFIT Cluster of Excellence is dedicated to one of the greatest challenges in oncology: Overcoming therapy resistance in tumors, with a particular focus on liver and gastrointestinal cancers. By uncovering the molecular mechanisms that enable tumors to evade treatment, we aim to develop innovative therapeutic strategies that ultimately improve patient outcomes.
- Investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying therapy resistance in liver and gastrointestinal cancers using state-of-the-art technologies as part of an independent PhD research project (leading to the degree of Dr. rer. nat.)
- Perform and analyze innovative experiments to identify and evaluate novel therapeutic strategies with translational relevance
- Present your research findings at lab meetings and international conferences and publish your work in high-impact journals
- Actively contribute to the interdisciplinary research environment of our iFIT Cluster of Excellence and the University of Tuebingen and collaborate with researchers from different scientific fields
- An excellent Master's degree (or equivalent) in biochemistry, biology, molecular medicine, biotechnology or a related life science discipline
- A strong interest in cancer biology
- Practical laboratory experience in molecular and/or cellular biology
- Communication skills and proficiency in English
- A proactive, independent and team-oriented working style
We are seeking enthusiastic, curious and motivated candidates, who enjoy scientific challenges and collaborative research.
We offer an exciting and ambitious PhD project (leading to the degree of Dr. rer. nat.) within the iFIT Cluster of Excellence addressing highly relevant questions in cancer biology with cutting-edge technologies. You will benefit from close supervision and mentoring in a collaborative research environment, many interdisciplinary collaborations with experts of different fields, membership in the iFIT Graduate School with its excellent PhD program and many career development opportunities, as well as participation in international conferences and scientific meetings.

Our work combines fundamental cancer research with translational drug development using innovative technologies (e.g. OMICS analyses, organoid models, in vivo cancer models). We investigate how targeting essential cellular processes in cancer cells (such as mitosis, transcription or lipid metabolism) can be exploited to selectively eliminate cancer cells and to overcome therapy resistance. Together with pharmaceutical scientists, we develop highly efficient compounds that target these vulnerabilities. The final goal of our research is to translate our therapeutic concepts into clinical applications.
