Within the framework of the RTG, the PhD student will develop and implement spectroscopy-based imaging to validate tumor margins and the tumor microenvironment. The goal will be to transfer established spectral biomarkers for tumor differentiation into a fiber-probe based benchtop/endoscopic setup.

 

 Major tasks include:

  • Establish pipelines for imaging of tissue sections, 3D models and fresh tissues by Raman microspectroscopy
  • Design and prototyping of a benchtop Raman unit
  • Evaluation and measurement of clinical samples
  • Develop image and data analysis workflows for multiparametric imaging, real-time readouts and tissue classification

  • Technical expertise and experience in microscopy, bioimaging and image analysis
  • Master’s degree in life science (physics, biology, biomedicine or (bio)engineering)
  • In particular, we require that candidates have prior experience with microscopy of biological samples
  • Knowledge and hands on experience in optics design, Raman microspectroscopy, oncology and/or multivariate data analysis are considered great advantages 
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research activities (life science and engineering)
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English is required 
  • As a PhD fellow in the RTG network, you need to have good social skills, be innovative and goal-oriented and be willing to conduct network activities
