In collaboration with our team and collaborators, the PhD student will develop and implement in situ imaging techniques to access the efficacy of vaccines in patient-derived 3D in vitro models of lymphoid tissue. The goal will be to study cellular dynamics and metabolism in order to design a novel readout platform.

Major tasks include:

  • Establish pipelines for live imaging in a microfluidic platform by Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM)
  • Benchmarking of metabolic markers for immune response
  • Design and prototyping of a benchtop FLIM unit Develop correlative image/data analysis workflows for multiparametric imaging and real-time readouts

  • We are looking broadly across disciplines for a candidate with technical expertise and experience in live cell microscopy, bioimaging amd image analysis
  • Applicants should hold a master’s degree in life science (Physics, chemistry, biology, biomedicine or (bio)engineering
  • In particular, we require that candidates have prior experience with microscopy of biological samples
  • Knowledge and hands on experience in optic design, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy, microfluidics or 3D cell culture are considered great advantages
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research activities (life science and engineering)
  • Excellent comman of spoken and written English is required

Benefits

  • Highly motivated, competent and multidisciplinary team with scientific and technical staff members
  • An exciting, varied and innovative working environment
  • Excellent technical equipment

The Faculty of Medicine is one of the four founding faculties of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. With its non-clinical facilities as well as its research and teaching area corresponding to the organisational units of the University Hospital, it is one of the largest medical training and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg.
