Clinician Scientist (f/m/d)

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tübingen supports Clinician Scientists (CS) at different stages of their career (Junior CS, CS, Advanced CS).
Clinician Scientists are translationally trained physicians who at the same time pursue a structured and long-term scientific career. A significant hurdle in the career of the "research clinician" is the time required to combine research and clinical work. After completing daily clinical tasks, there is rarely any time left for research. Our German Research Foundation-funded Clinician Scientist Program ‘Medical Innovation through Interdisciplinarity’ (MINT-CS) suppports candidates with interdisciplinary projects that are based on experimental research. It supports participants with personnel resources (fixed share of 50% of the total working time for scientific work, the remaining 50% will be covered by the host clinical department) and flexible funds (3.000 Euro per year).
Since the start of the program in 2023, we recruited 19 excellent candidates. In the third phase of the program, starting in summer 2025, we are looking for further 8 excellent, highly motivated Clinician Scientists. During the three year funding period, you will be also trained in key skills (third-party funding acquisition, manuscript writing, leadership skills, etc.) and supported in mobility projects.
Criteria for application:
The program is aimed at physicians who are in the process of specializing and have conducted scientific work independently. We understand, that CVs and career paths are highly personal and individual achievements can vary greatly. We thus encourage you to take advantage of our personalised advice at the Clinician Scientist Office, to find aut about your eligibility.
Important information for external applicants:
Applications from outside the UKT are warmly welcomed and actively encouraged! Our Clinician Scientist Programs are designed to support a scientific career alongside clinical training and require an employment contract with the UKT as part of your specialist training. To ensure a smooth application process, we recommend reaching out to the relevant clinical departments to explore available positions. The Clinician Scientist Office is pleased to assist you at every step, offering guidance in advance and facilitating contact with the appropriate dapartments if needed.
Application is a two-step process:
- Deadline for submission of written applications is February 23rd, 2025
- Oral presentation of eligible projects is scheduled for April 23rd, 2025 (date to be confirmed)
Important:
Applications must be submitted exclusively through the designated application portal, submissions via email or the UKT job portal (“Apply now” button) cannot not be considered. Should you require any assistance with the submission process, we are happy to help (contact details below).
The link to the application portal and further information about the program will be available from mid-December on the homepage.
